I enjoy garage sales, believing genuine treasures can be unearthed with a little vision and some TLC. Recently, however, I assessed a number of these unfinished purchases: Would I ever reupholster those eight unique dining room chairs—or mat and frame the incredible puzzle my daughter and I completed several holidays ago—or strip and stain the antique desk I carried across the country for twenty years?
I was a little disheartened by the unmet potential surrounding me. I had lost vision and interest. Hence, their purpose remained a mystery. Then suddenly an incredible wave of gratitude swept over me. I began to recognize my own reflection in each piece. I, too am an unfinished project. We all are.
Areas of our lives need renovating: a little stripping of faulty thinking, some sanding away of pride and selfishness, the new upholstery of understanding.
When we yield our lives to the committed hands of our Creator, He renews our thinking, refines our character, and reveals his glorious image within us. He promises us – He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.” (Phil 1:6)
He doesn’t lose vision for our unfinished lives. Our transformation is His daily priority. Through the grace of His Holy Spirit and the inner work of His living Word, we change day after day. Until—one day—our unfinished lives become His completed masterpiece. Let’s thank Him today for never losing sight of our unfinished lives.
