It’s a New Year—a fresh beginning—a re-start—another chance. I love beginnings. They’re much more exciting than middles. Maybe that’s why we so often find ourselves about a month into a new year, letting go of goals we had every intention of completing. What if you came to December 31st, 2018 with some finished goals, a sense of satisfaction and deep joy?
At the entrance of this new year, what better place to talk about beginnings than all the way back to THE Beginning: Genesis—the first book of the Bible. Nine times in the opening chapter of the Bible I noticed the phrase, “Let there be….” followed by the phrase, “And there was…”
For a few moments today I sat in my favorite chair, allowing those words to sink into areas of my soul, needing some fresh life. The very One who set this world in motion, continues to keep it in motion. He’s the One who said, “Let there be…”and there I was—born onto this planet. He is the One who continues to create dreams, ideas, and opportunities into the daily rhythm of this thing I call life. When He declares, “Let there be…” there is. Unless He declares it, there simply won’t be. It boils down to that simple fact.
So, what if we were to launch into this new year asking, “Oh Father, let there be…” What is it you would ask for? Healing? Provision? Restoration? Fulfillment of a dream or a longing? What would be your bravest prayer? Your greatest intention? Let there be.
And there was.
My prayer for you this year is that you would discover Creator God, not only as the One in charge of creating, but known by you as Your Good Father. He rejoices when you ask. Could you trust Him to speak into the void of your circumstances, whispering, “Let there be”? Oh the joy a world would share when we came to the end of a year, testifying, “…and there was!”

Wow, that is so powerful! I’m putting this on my wall or a sunrise photograph, so I can read it, reflect on it, pray it and move in it daily.
“Let there be…”
“And there was…”

That’s so wonderful, Jana. I love your intentionality in your journey with Jesus!
