2 May God send you help—and
strengthen you… [a]
4 May he grant your heart’s desires
and make all your plans succeed.
5 We shout for joy when we hear of your victory…
May the LORD answer all your prayers.
7 Some nations boast of their chariots and horses,
but we boast in the name of the LORD our God.
8 Those nations will fall down and collapse,
but we will rise up and stand firm.
~ Psalm 20
Whether we know it or not, God is working diligently in our lives, guiding our successes and leveling obstacles. Sometimes I see him at work in your life. Sometimes in mine. Competition squelches our ability to celebrate our friends’ victories. This failure to applaud another’s successes actually stunts our own joy.
Why should your triumph amplify my joy? Your victory, ignite my victory? Why should I pray for your success and shout for joy when your desires are met by God’s goodness?
Your victories confirm God’s favor and power pours out on those who trust Him. While some trust in degrees, finances, skills, or connections, I choose to trust Him with my difficulties and longings when I see His power magnified in your situations.
Today, let’s seek an opportunity to rejoice in a friend’s victory. Instead of doubting God will answer our own longings, allow another’s blessings to anchor our hope and strengthen our resolve: God is able! Through Christ we, too, can rise up and stand firm.
