I entered the back of the auditorium. The band played a familiar song, but the vastness of God’s grace, captured within the lyrics, gripped my heart in a brand new way.
It’s there on the wedding day
There in the weeping by the grave site
There in the very breath we breathe
Your great grace
It’s the same for the rich and poor
The same for the saint and for the sinner
Enough for this whole wide world
Your great grace
Oh, such grace
There in the darkest night of the soul
There in the sweetest songs of victory
Your grace finds me
Yes your grace finds me
Today, whether your feet hit the ground, dancing to the beat of a sweet song of victory, or you had to force yourself out of bed to face a challenging circumstance…Jesus entered into the day with you!
The Psalmist declared, “Through all the generations, God, You have been our home.” (Psalm 90:1)
God…Our Home!
What an incredible metaphor!
I love visiting new places: the people, topography, and customs enliven my soul. But no place matches the emotion I feel when I arrive back home after a time away! It’s the place I feel most comfortable. Home is where every shred of pretense fades. Laughter rings loud and tears flow freely.
God,,,our home! He pitches his tent on the soil of our soul and invites us to make our dwelling place in Him. He offers us a permanent dwelling. No more transient living for the people of God. He promises shelter and companionship in our darkest nights, celebration during our sweetest victories, and attentive involvement within the routine activities of our day.”
Why do we convince ourselves that the presence of pain means the absence of God?
Why is it so hard for us to convince our souls that He is always present?
Even here?
Even now?
One of my favorite Bible accounts is the story of a mother and her son. They were banished to the wilderness due to irreconcilable differences with the woman she served. Hope ran dry when her flask of water emptied. Both the woman and her son faced eminent death. Check out this short story found in Genesis 21
15 When the water was gone, she put the boy in the shade of a bush. 16 Then she went and sat down by herself about a hundred yards away. “I don’t want to watch the boy die,” she said, as she burst into tears.
17 But God heard the boy crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven, “Hagar, what’s wrong? Do not be afraid! God has heard the boy crying as he lies there. 18 Go to him and comfort him, for I will make a great nation from his descendants.”
19 Then God opened Hagar’s eyes, and she saw a well full of water. She quickly filled her water container and gave the boy a drink.
That day Hagar gave God a new name: The One who sees Me! The One who hears me! (El Roi)
The One who saw Hagaar…still sees!
You.
The One who heard the boy crying….hears!
Your voice!
His grace will always find you…and supply the thing you need most.
…Water
…LIVING WATER!
Drink deeply!
He will refresh and revive Your soul with Himself. He will steady you as you walk through the day. He will counsel you through challenging decisions. He will calm your storm with His power.
Take a couple of minutes this morning to acknowledge His presence that is with you…
Even here!
Even now!
