Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5-6
Generally, I’m quite eager to run to God for wisdom concerning major decisions in my life. As a family we have sought His guidance with career decisions, family relocations, large purchases, education decisions for our children, etc; but this morning this verse jumped off the page and into my spirit: Seek his will in ALL YOU DO! He WILL SHOW YOU which path to take.
In ALL I do? In a given day? That seems impossible.
I sat still for a few moments to ponder what that reality would look like…Today!
How could I include Him in everything – right from the start? What if I hit my knees first thing in the morning before I hit my horn on my daily commute?
Could that verse imply a dependency on God as rhythmic and as natural and necessary as breathing? Could it flesh out as unpolished and simple as this:
I don’t know everything this day holds, Father, but you do. My understanding is finite, yours is not.
My vantage point is narrow; your scope knows no limits.
At every fork in the road today, when a decision – weighty or seemingly insignificant – demands a swift answer, I desire the assurance of your leading, the confidence from your involvement in the countless details of my life.
When crucial conversations require my courage, I ask for your wisdom and grace.
When temptations lure me to react in negative ways or to yield to sinful habits, I appeal to your bedrock strength to guide me into a place of safety, joy and freedom.
When presented with an opportunity to offer encouragement, hope, or joy to a fellow sojourner, open my eyes to see and my heart to quicken, beyond the screaming needs of my own situation or circumstance, to discover the refreshing thrill of offering tender-kindness and beauty to one’s pathway.
May I venture through this day with inner-confidence, joyous expectancy, and sure-footed purpose; for You have bound yourself to me, committed yourself to be my constant companion… ever-guiding, ever-assuring, ever-comforting.
Open my eyes to see your boundless love… to recognize the endless possibilities in this new day.
I entrust all my ways… all my life to you today!
Anchor of Hope: Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11:29-30 (The Message)
THOUGHT TO PONDER: What does it look like for you today for you to acknowledge that you don’t have to walk one moment, one decision, of this day alone?
